model: Leyat Helica H2 1921 Sedan.
The 2 seater propeller driven car was designed by Marcel Leyat from 1919 to 1926 and built in a small series of only 20 pieces. 2 vehicles have been preserved as originals to this day. since my research on this rare vehicle gave different information on the technology, this compilation should only be seen as a guideline. The 1.4 meter diameter propeller was driven directly by a 2-cylinder boxer engine from A.B.C. Motor Company built in 1919 and reached approx. 1800 revolutions and released approx. 30 hp. this was sufficient for a maximum speed of 140 to 170 km/h. which was a very high value for that time. made of metal, plywood and canvas, its relationship with propeller planes is easy to see. The Leyat company only built cars until 1926 and then focused on its core business of aircraft construction again. The car cost over USD 1600 and was therefore exorbitantly expensive for the time. while, for example, a 1928 Ford model a was available for as little as $385 to $575. The rigid front axle had leaf springs and drum brakes, while the rear axle, which was steered by construction cables, was unbraked. the first helicas still had canvas-covered rear wheels, which were replaced by classic 21-inch spoked wheels on the H2 model. I wish you a lot of fun with this model and may your scenes be successful.
