model: Basic Door Generator
The Basic Door Generator is a design process tool designed for Architectural projects in Blender. Built on Geometry Nodes, the tool works through a modifier and creates procedural door meshes and their corresponding plan-view symbols based on user-input dimensions and settings. It is intended to enable quick and easy design iteration and to provide a preview of how a door will look in a space. All doors can be animated with a built-in slider.
An overview of features is provided below - see my website for full documentation and a few examples. I'd love to hear what you all do with it, or if you have any feedback!
The generator instances a door on each vertex of the target mesh. This vertex should be snapped to the bottom of the wall on the side that the door will swing into, and the door will be centered on this point.
It offers three types of doors in two styles, has an input to rotate the door to match the wall, two trim options, a toggle to flip the handle side of the door from right to left, and a toggle to just punch a hole for importing a custom mesh. There are four panels in the modifier below these basic settings - Dimensions, Materials, Plan View Settings, and Animation.
The dimensions panel houses the inputs to control the dimensions of the door.
The Materials panel houses all the material settings. This includes drop-downs with preset materials (procedural), custom material import, and color and roughness settings for the presets.
The Plan View Settings panel allows the user to switch between 3D meshes and 2D plan-view symbols (intended for rendering floorplans). The menu in the modifier controls individual doors and there is a master switch in the node system.
Finally, the Animation panel has a single slider which will open and close the doors.
