model: Prussian 12-Pound Cannon & Limber 1842
The Prussian 12-pound field cannon with limber (Protze) of 1842 was a significant weapon that played a crucial role in Prussia's military history. This cannon was operated by well-trained artillery soldiers, allowing them to effectively engage and demonstrate Prussia's military strength. The cannon's aiming mechanism consisted of a traversing yoke and a traversing fork attached to the cannon, secured with a traversing key. This system enabled precise alignment of the cannon, even after multiple shots, ensuring high accuracy. The 12-pound field cannon had the capability to fire various types of projectiles, including iron balls, chain shots, bar shots, stone balls, and blast furnace slag balls. This versatility allowed artillery soldiers to adapt to different battlefield situations and operate effectively. Over time, various explosive projectiles were also developed to meet the evolving demands of the battlefield. The limber, or Protze, was pulled by six mounted horses, while the officer rode solo. Additionally, two soldiers could ride on the limber. In 1859, a conflict arose when the 12-pound field cannon was deployed during the Battle of Solferino in Italy. It showcased its effectiveness and contributed to Prussia's military success. The Prussian 12-pound field cannon with limber (Protze) of 1842 symbolized the technological progress and development of artillery in Prussia, demonstrating its military prowess and capabilities on the battlefield. The Blender model consists of over 340 individual parts, many of which are movable. To adjust the cannon angle, please directly manipulate the cannon barrel. The lifting lever will follow your setting through a constraint. For angle adjustments of the bracket and rotation of the wheels, please use the transformation orientation local, as they are inclined at another 2° or -2° to the side. It is recommended to rotate and tilt the inclined mount using the Ax control object to prevent the parts from falling apart. You can move the entire scene as usual with the central null object. Due to the size of the model, I had to omit several equipment items. If you require detailed information about the omitted objects, you can find the original construction plans from 1842 in every detail here: https://www.digitale-sammlungen.de/de/view/bsb10702065?page=4,5 . If you need assistance in creating additional model parts, I am available to help. In that case, please contact me (Joachim Bornemann) via the contact form on Blenderkit.com. A simple request with details of the required objects will suffice. Please don't overlook the available entrenching tools (shovels and axe) located at the front of the limber (the axe is stored in a holder underneath the footboard). The lid of the Limber box can be opened, Inside the limber box, there are chain links needed for harnessing the horses as an alternative to the chain hanging on the ground. Additionally, I have included the locking key for the aiming mechanism configuration of the cannon for firing readiness. If you need assistance in setting up the cannon for firing, please also contact me through the mentioned contact form. I wish you a lot of fun with the Blender model, and may your 3D scenes be successful!
