Soya (宗谷 so:ya) is a Japanese icebreaker currently serving as a museum ship in Tokyo, off the island of Odaiba. Named after the sub-prefecture of the same name on the island of Hokkaido. During his long service he participated in many historical events. The ship was laid down as Volochaevets by order of the Soviet Union, in 1936, at the Matsuo shipyards of Koyagi Island, Japan, as payment for the construction of the South Manchurian Railway by Japan.
